We’re Going on the School Run

We’re going on the school run.
We’re going to be there early.
What a beautiful day!
I’m not rushed.

Uh oh! Snack!
I forgot the snack.
We haven’t got apples.
We haven’t got bananas.
Oh no! I’ll have to make one!

We’re going on the school run.
We’re going to be there early.
What a beautiful day!
I’m not rushed.

Uh oh! Rain!
Quite a lot of rain.
We’ll need to put wellies on.
We’ll need to put raincoats on.
Oh no! The zips are really fiddly!

We’re going on the school run.
We may not be there early.
Not a beautiful day.
I’m a teensy bit rushed.

Uh oh! Wee!
You need to do a wee?
We’ll need to take your wellies off.
We’ll need to take your coat off.
Oh no! You missed the loo completely!

We’re going on the school run.
There’s no way we’ll be early.
What a challenging day!
Now we’re really rushed.

Uh oh! The keys!
Where are the keys?
They’re not on the key hook.
They’re not in my pocket.
Oh no! Will we ever find them?

We’re going on the school run.
Is anyone ever early?
What a horrible day.
I hate being rushed.

Uh oh! Traffic!
Completely solid traffic.
We can’t go under it.
We can’t go over it.
Oh no! We’ll have to just sit in it!

What’s this? 3 o’clock?
Back in the kitchen. . . still no snacks there.
Back in the cupboard . . .find the raincoat.
Back to the key hook. . where have the keys gone?
Back in the car. . . oh no we forgot to lock the door.
Slam car door, run back to house, lock the door, back in the car, sit in traffic.
We’re not going on a school run again . . .
Until tomorrow.

With an obvious nod to Michael Rosen’s ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’.
